Our purpose is to foster a love of home gardening

This October was our thirtieth anniversary

Gardening in the far far west

Affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society and
the Cornwall Garden Society

Welcome to the Peninsula Garden Society

If you are thinking of joining us, here is some information which may help you make up your mind. One thing is for certain, you’re sure of a warm welcome.

We are a mixed bunch of plantaholics from all around West Penwith who are passionate about all things gardening. We meet monthly, bar August, at Lamorna Village Hall on the third Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm, for a garden talk and here we swap ideas and plants and seek advice. In May we hold a PLANT SALE which is our main fundraiser for the year. It’s been a very successful event in many ways: meeting the wider community, welcoming local growers and nursery folk to tempt us with new plants and a place to gain new members. And of course there’s a lunch to share and a prize to be won!

Members vary from professional horticulturalists and expert amateurs to the totally ignorant who wish to learn about gardening in this amazing but challenging climate of ours here in West Cornwall. {Mild, wind, salt and rain with sometimes more than a touch of frost!}

Talks vary across the whole spectrum of gardening, from gardening with nature to specialist advice for particular plant types, from soil health to adapting to climate change. We have recently had contributors who have encouraged us to aim at developing plastic free gardens and have raised the issues of the importance of water capture.

Our speakers come from a comprehensive range of enthusiasts from the horticultural world. From plant hunters and specialists, head gardeners and lecturers and of course speakers drawn from our own members expertise.

Yes, we’ve a lot to interest you. If you’ve become a member, let us greet you with a warm welcome and if you’re still considering you can always come as a guest to one of our meetings.

Any questions or ideas you may have can always be discussed with one of our committee members. Our membership fee is £10 per person or £3 as a visiting guest.
