Society Affiliations and Events
Societies affiliated to the Peninsula Garden Society
There are many benefits to joining the affiliated schemes of both the RHS and Cornwall Garden Society but members should be aware that they don’t give full individual access unless they become members themselves. It is the membership which benefits collectively giving access to a whole range of resources relating to the society’s work.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)

Some of the benefits are noted here.
- Monthly copy of The Garden magazine which can be circulated around our members.
- One free annual visit for up to 55 members to an RHS garden of choice. Our nearest is RHS Rosemoor.
- Free gardening advice from RHS experts relating to ‘our group’s work’.
- Speakers and Judges list.
- Use of RHS logo.
- One reduced rate RHS entry card which allows 2 members a 50% reduction to any RHS garden.
- RHS reduced price entry cards. Affiliated societies are entitled to purchase 3 cards at £10 each; these cards allow up to 2 people a 30% reduction on the entry price to any RHS garden. Currently we do not take advantage of this concession.
- Reduced rate RHS Flower Show tickets excluding Chelsea. These are for Group or Special Affiliated Society rates.
- Insurance Cover. We do hold this cover with the RHS.
- Banksian and Grenfell medals are available but strict criteria needs to be adhered to for these awards to be given.
- Publicity and Promotion advice is available which includes Digital and Social Media.
- Holding a Show. A comprehensive list of guidance is available.
- RHS Partner Gardens. Affiliated Societies do not receive free entry but the majority of gardens will often offer a reduced rate for group bookings.
The Cornwall Garden Society
The benefits of individual membership are many and varied. Please log into the CGS website to view what they all are. The benefits of affiliation are very useful but limited.
The benefits to the society are as follows:-
The use of two membership cards for any of the PGS members to give access to a range of CGS listed gardens.
- Gold & Silver medal certificated to award at Affiliated Society shows.
- Access to an annually updated Speakers List.
Burncoose Nursery
Gwennap, Redruth, Cornwall, TR16 6BJ
Although they are not an affiliated society, they are a very respected local nursery that has been active for 40 years.
They have an ecxcellent website which includes garden tips and jobs for each month which are very useful.
